MOT testing is a legal requirement for all vehicles over three years old making sure that your motorcycle meets road safety and environmental standards. An MOT lasts for a year. Without an up to date MOT certificate your motorcycle insurance and road tax become invalid and your motorcycle may not be roadworthy. We advise you to book an appointment with us before your current MOT runs out, you can do this up to one month in advance of your MOT expiry date.
MOT tests generally take just over half an hour - so why not enjoy a complimentary coffee and browse our bikes, helmets, clothing and other motorcycle accessories in our showroom while you wait!
MOT test stations have designated bays where they conduct the test using a range of specialised equipment. The test procedures are laid out in a manual by the government which is available to view if you want to read through it. If your motorcycle fails the test, you will be given a failure document with reference to the manual. You can watch the test from a viewing area but you’re not allowed to interrupt the tester.
All MOT testers at 1st Line Motorcycles have been on a training course with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and their competence to carry out MOT tests is checked regularly.
You can get a replacement MOT certificate from any MOT centre if you have lost or damaged the original. You’ll need to provide your motorcycle registration number and either the original MOT test number, or V5C document reference number – this can be found on the V5C registration certificate. The fee for a duplicate MOT certificate for a motorcycle is £10.00.
